Manga Review | Futaribeya by Yukiko

**This post is NOT sponsored ✨

Dear Reader,

So, I was on the lookout for cute yuri (Girls Love), and I saw Futaribeya at my local B&N, which I was drawn to immediately. The cover is pink which is my favorite color, and it’s super pretty and girly with flowers and lace. I really love the art! I’m a sucker for aesthetics, plus the pastel pink and cute girl’s spoke to me.

The story starts with Sakurako Kawawa who has moved into the dorm. Her first time away from home, and the beginning of her high school experience. Then, she meets her roommate, Kasumi Yamabuki. Who is super pretty, but kind of an airhead. The two become quite the duo, as they navigate school and living away from their families together.

I honestly thought this was a duology, but after looking it up it seems there are currently six volumes out in Japanese, which will also be released in English later this year. I’m super hyped about it, because I’ve become super attached to our two main characters. I can kind of see myself in both girls, Sakurako who is smart and responsible, and also Kasumi who is hard working, but also a little bit clumsy.

I would totally go back in time and redo high school if my experience was like theirs! Honesty from what I’ve read so far, the series is super wholesome and kawaii. I’m always blown away from the aesthetics. Their hairstyles are always on point, their outfits are soooooooo cute!

They also make friends with their classmates and dorm-mates. The series is slice of life, so really not much drama ensues, which I appreciate. Slice of life is one of my favorite genres, because I kind of like seeing people’s normal everyday life. Like Horimiya, which you can read my review on here. 😄

The days of youth, sweet and exciting haha. Of course, I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll leave you guys with this!

Reasons to check it out:

  • Aesthetics
  • Girls being supportive friends 💖
  • Cute plot
  • Really, it’s a feel good manga!

So, my only complaint would be the panelings, because I’m not used to reading straight panels. It’s a bit confusing sometimes, but I got used to it. Honestly the story and characters are soooo cute, so I can live with it~

Catch the series here:

Amazon, B&N

9/10 stars!

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed this mini review! Check out my Instagram on the side bar if you want to see more cute manga pics!

How I Edit my Instagram Pictures

Dear Reader,

Someone DMed me on IG and asked me what I do to edit my Instagram pictures, and LOL let me tell you, I am the laziest Instagrammer out there. Like, I take a pic, run it through an app, and BOOM post. But that’s for my manga account, honestly I still haven’t figured out what to do for my insta_rinnn account, but I’ll let you know when I do.

Anyway, here’s what I use for my manga IG @love_rinnn!

Image result for lisa manoban gif

Camera: I have the iPhone 8 Plus, and I just used the camera that comes with the phone. I usually select the square function, because it’s easier to see how it will look on instagram that way. I know some people will take the photo, and then crop it, but I like to take it as a square because it saves time. Plus, I think it looks nicer.

Image result for jaejoong taking a picture gif

Photo Editor: I use the foodie app to add a filter and brighten the photo if it needs it.

The Foodie app is the yellow app at the bottom. Then, I upload the photo I took, and used the YU5 filter. I used to use the YU2 filter, but these days I like the way the YU5 filter smooths out my pictures. If you think your picture needs to be brighter, use the middle button to do any adjustments.

So my picture came out looking like this:

IMG_3956

So, yeah! That’s how I edit my pictures, super easy right? Also, here are some tricks I’ve learned about uploading pictures.

Tips:

  • People are attracted to bright colors, so try to use a bright background. I use white because it’s basic, and matches most any other colors I put on top of it. Like purple or pastel pink.
  • Take pictures in natural lighting, you’ll have to brighten your pictures less that way. Which is what I did in my sample picture, after that all I had to do was add the filter and call it good. Plus, there’s less shadows. Shadows ruining my pictures is the bane of my existence tbh.
  • Don’t be afraid of experimenting and finding the right style for you! IG is about having fun, so have fun and don’t worry about what others think! ❤

So, there you have it!

I hope you enjoyed this little post, and feel free to DM on insta with any questions you have! Like always, this post isn’t sponsored, and I’ll catch you guys later! Bye~~

Love,

Rin

Review |Horimiya by HERO x Daisuke Hagiwara

Series: Horimiyahorimiya

Author: HERO

Artist: Daisuke Hagiwara

Genre: Slice of Life, Comedy, Romance

Published(eng): Oct. 27, 2015- present

At first glance, the ultra-popular Hori-san seems like a frivolous high school girl, but in reality, she’s plain, pragmatic, and family-oriented. On the other hand, the bespectacled Miyamura-kun comes across as an average, gloomy high school fanboy, but he’s actually an attractive young man who has a bad-boy streak and is covered in piercings and tattoos. When these two unexpectedly similar classmates have a random run-in outside of the classroom, a bubbly, sweet tale of school life begins!

Dear Reader,

So, today I’m bringing you a review on Horimiya! My cute babies!!

I would definitely say that Horimiya is my favorite high school romance manga, and I was actually still in high when the series started coming out in Japanese. I would check whatever manga reader I was using at the time, to see if the next chapter had come out yet, and sometimes it would take the fan translator a while to upload so I was always left in suspense.Image result for biting nails gif

Then, one day, Yen Press copyrighted it, and I was forced to wait for every volume to come out just like all the mortals. That’s okay though, I like being able to support the author!

Anyway, Horimiya is a cute Slice of Life manga about Hori-san, a responsible older sister, and Miyamura-kun, an emo boy (what? he is🤷) who dresses like a nerd at school.

horimiya 5.JPG

Hori-san is actually very cool and chic at school, but at home she dresses and acts like a middle aged mom (my aesthetic too tbh), because she is helping her parents raise her younger brother while they’re busy with work.

horimiya 3.JPG

I like Horimiya because the romance doesn’t happen to quickly, everyone know’s that Hori and Miyamura are going to end up together (I mean I hope), but the series takes it’s time bringing them together. Also, all the side characters are super cute! And they actually serve a purpose (aka, the best friend, a potential love rival), while not being annoying about it.

We get to watch Hori and Miyamura gradually realize their feelings for each other, and experience jealous, while also being “just friends.”

horimiya 2

Miyamura even adopts Hori’s younger brother as his own, and the three of them become a cute little trio!

Oh, I will add that while Hori’s parents are absent a lot, at least they’re in the story. Like, Hori’s dad! Who likes to tease the pair, but is also very protective of his daughter.

Honestly, the whole series is super light, fluffy, and wholesome. I wish my high school experience was even 1/10th this nice honestly! Also, I wish they would make an anime of this already! There is a small OVA series based off the original webcomic (Hori-san to Miyamura-kun), but I need a full on 20 episode series people! *long drawn out disappointed sigh*

miyamura 4.JPG

So, to conclude.

Reasons why you should check the series out:

  • Cute couple, who start off as friends!
  • Nice side characters everyone will love 🙂
  • Cute art~
  • Complex characters
  • Nice family dynamics
  • and more!

Hope you liked my short review! Check out my IG for more kawaii photo’s @love_rinnn Thanks for reading ❤

A young boy named Subaru comes to Asahi’s aid, but despite his help, Asahi must endure a test of survival! Will she be able to make it out alive, or will she end up being sacrificed?

**PSA: This is not a sponsored post, but it would be nice if it were! Links provided are for your leisure.

Dear Reader,

So. Today I’m bringing you my first manga review. Currently, there are only 6 volumes out in English, but the next volume is set to drop soon! Honestly I really, really enjoy this series. The story, the art, everything about it is so cute! We have Asashi, a strange red haired girl from the present, thrown into the past (or maybe a different dimension, not 100% sure, but ya know).

wdb 2.JPG

So, then, she meets Subaru, who is a cute little village boy. Sadly, even though he does his best to protect her, his mother– in an attempt to save his sister, sacrifices Asashi to the Water God.

Luckily, the Water God is kind? Well, he’s an ancient relic who doesn’t know what to do with a bride, let alone a child…😅 Anyway, our first impression of him is that he’s an old dude who doesn’t know anything about humans, so he comes off as kind of cruel, but he’s a god, so it’s to be expected.😱

Even though he doesn’t understand humans, he grows fond of Asashi, and decides to spare her. They have a rocky start, but as he learns more about humans, her grows to like her, and even saves her from a fever.

IMG_3695.JPG

I personally really like the Water God, especially as the series progresses. Although he becomes more human through Asashi, and more empathetic, I kind of like his initial character. He’s really secluded, bored, and cold– which means he’s lonely, watching the humans from a mirror in the god’s world.

However, I will say “poor Asashi.” She’s really young, separated from her family, sacrificed to a god, and made an outcast by the villagers. Although, you really grow respect for her, because she keeps trying. Even though she dreams of home, she makes the best out of her situation and survives. wdb 1.JPG

Really, the true hero of the first volume is Subaru for always trying to take care of and save Asashi, not just from the clutches of the Water God, but also from his own mother–and the nasty villagers. He’s really a good friend!

asashi

So, I won’t go any farther, because I don’t want to spoil anything!

Reasons to check the series out:

  • Cute art
  • A super cute protagonist
  • A fantasy world that will take you away from you’re everyday life
  • An attractive Water God, who is mysterious and alluring
  • A brave hero
  • And a fun story!

I hope you enjoyed my little review, and I’ll catch you later! Make sure you check out my manga IG for more kawaii photos @love_rinnn Thanks again!

Manga Tag

manga

Dear Reader,

I feel like I should blog at least once a week, but because I’m in the middle of finals– not much else is happening in my life, and I highly doubt you guys want to read a diary entry about my life in a crisis, so here’s a tag I found on Youtube!

I have a manga IG, which is the one on my side bar, and I thought this tag looked fun! Without further ado, here’s my answers, enjoy!

1. What was your first manga?

Skip Beat! My friend bought it for me in middle school as a birthday gift. At the time, I like manga, but I was a poor child who couldn’t afford to own my own lol.

2. What was your most expensive manga?

I don’t own any “expensive manga” because I usually just buy regular single volumes. Horimiya is $13.00 so I’ll go with that 😬

3. What was your least expensive manga?

A local book store was doing a backlog sale, and all books were a dollar each. I bought two volumes of Vampire Knight for that lol

4. What is the most boring manga you own?

Ghost Diary? I bought it because the cover was really pretty, and I like girls with pink hair, and she had a cool eye patch. However, it was pretty boring, and the story was hard to follow. Oh well, I still like the cover.

5. What is your favourite manga (series)?

Vampire Knight. I know everyone hates Yuuki and Kaname, I mean let’s face it they’re both pretty awful, but for some reason that makes me like them more!

6. What is the most relatable manga that you own?

Horimiya, I’d have to say. Hori-san pretty much raises her brother, and I can relate to being the older sibling who takes care of the younger one.

7. What is one manga that you own that is based off of an anime? (Not the other way around)

I don’t own any manga like this, most of the manga I own have anime’s based off them, not the other way around.

8. What is your rarest manga?

Vampire Game by Judal. Tbh, I’ve never seen anyone else with that manga. No one talks about it either, but a friend bought it for me in high school as a Christmas gift, and honestly I have no idea where she got it…

9. One of your reprinted manga. (Printed in the past but printed again by another company).

Again, I don’t have any manga like this. At least, not to my knowledge?

10. The most popular manga series you own.

I see One Count a lot!

11. What is the most damaged manga you own?

I have a random volume of Hana Yori Dango that’s pretty beat up. I don’t know where I got it either, it may have been gifted to me?

12. Which manga has the most amazing art?

I looove the art from The Water Dragon’s Bride, especially the water colored covers!

13. Oldest published manga that you own?

I’m going to go with the random volume of Hana Yori Dango I own, because the original was published in the early 90s.

14. Newest published manga that you own?

The Water Dragon’s Bride, vol 3!

15. A recent manga that you purchased.

Horimiya vol 3! I’m finally getting around to collecting them!

Well, that’s a wrap! Good luck to all the other students out there prepping for finals! Catch you later, bye-bye!

Diary Entry: Senshi Con 2017

senshi_con_2017

10.1.2017

Dear Reader,

I went to my first anime convention! Senshi Con is held in Anchorage every year, and even though it was a thing when I was in high school, I finally manage to make it like seven years later! Haha, it was a lot of fun!0.jpg

I went with my friend Sam! She drove us there, and then we walked to the event from the parking garage one street over. Neither of us have a sense of direction, and we may have gotten a little lost. It took us half an hour to walk to a place that should have taken us ten minutes… But I saw some interesting sculptures!

After we figured out we were going the wrong way, Sam lend us to the Dena’ina Center where the Con was being held (yes, I was the one who got us lost). From there we checked in (we pre-registered) and then walked into the venue.

the con.jpg

There were a ton of booths with art, trinkets, and merch! Between Sam and I, we probably spent $100 on just art. She has a thing for Boku no Hero Academia and it was EVERYWHERE. I got art from Kami-sama no Kiss, and Princess Mononoke!

There was also kpop merch, and I got cute folders of Nu’est and Teen Top, but they were both older from around 2012. I also got a Black Pink folder, which was their lastest comeback, As If It’s Your Last! I also got a cute plushy, and three enamel pins!

senshi con haul.jpg

After that, we went to the 5th avenue mall, and hung out for awhile. We ate a late lunch in the food court, which wasn’t very aesthetically pleasing, so I didn’t snap a pic of it for you… Oh, and we went into Hot Topic, Sephora, and Lush! We didn’t get anything, but it was fun looking around.

giphy1

I really enjoyed the con, we mostly looked around, and talked to vendors! I was able to find some new artists to support as well. When we went home, Sam wished she had bought more posters, but I’m pretty satisfied with what I picked up. Next year, I won’t be able to go, so I’m glad I finally had a chance to experience Alaska’s tiny comic con.

Anyway, that’s all! I went home and wrote a paper that was due at midnight, and made dinner for my little sister. The rest of that Sunday was pretty uneventful.

So, as always, thanks for reading! Don’t foget to follow me on all my social media, and I’ll catch you all later!

Question of the day: have you ever gone to a con? Tell me you experience down below!
